The building itself is part of the original Dr. Challoner's Grammar School founded in 1624 and is steeped in history, which gives every part of our beautiful restaurant a quite unique atmosphere. We are also fortunate in having first-class teams to cook and look after you. This is what independent family-run restaurants are all about and, happily, there are a few of us still thriving!

'Sandy's Tent'
When Boris announced that we could re-open restaurants in April 2020, but only outside, Sandy spotted an opportunity for what was now, like so many others, our pandemic-hit ailing business. She designed and had built a fantastic tent, complete with lighting and heating ... and Lin complimented this with her planting of the raised flower beds. This has been very enthusiastically welcomed and is rapidly becoming quite a feature in the centre of Old Amersham. Atmosphere is everything in the restaurant business and 'Sandy's Tent' certainly has it. Summer lunchtime diners love the almost Provençal feel and with the fabulous lighting and heating, this outside area is ideal for dining during many of the warmer months of the year.

Located on the High Street of Eton, close to the River Thames and between the historic buildings of Eton College and Windsor Castle. Gilbey's is the perfect place to meet for lunch, dinner, afternoon tea or simply a drink at the Bar. This year they have also opened a stunning top floor Studio Suite for guest accommodation with rooftop views to Windsor Castle."

Model of a dependable neighbourhood bistro
A faithful servant of Old Amersham for many years, Gilbey's is still the model of a dependable neighbourhood bistro. The setting – a converted grammar school with a lovely courtyard garden – is a big plus, and the kitchen plays with a straight bat. The lively menu might take in pork and pink peppercorn terrine (£7.75), confit duck with red onion tarte Tatin (£16.95) and lemon tart with cranberry and orange sorbet (£6.85). The Gilbey family are also wine importers, so expect plenty of good stuff from £13.95. Open all week."

Just a note to pass on a HUGE thank you to all your team. We were beautifully looked after yesterday and lunch was a total joy from start to finish. Many compliments to the chefs; it must have been seriously hard work in the kitchens with a full house, and it was absolutely delicious!
Thanks to all of you, it couldn't have been a happier lunch.

Best meal I've had for a long time!
Our meal this afternoon in your smallest function room was absolutely perfect and so I wanted to say thank you. The waiting staff were attentive yet unimposing and the food really was wonderful.
The room was a lovely venue and we all had a wonderful time. Many thanks for all your help running up to the day as well as great service and food on the day. Everyone in our party commented on the really lovely venue and meal.

Thank you for my amazing night Saturday, I couldn't have wished for more it was fabulous. Great venue always although somehow managed to look extra magical Saturday. Seriously good food, I've had so many comments acknowledging how good it good it was and no firm winner either - literally all of it! Smiles, patience, efficiency and just superb service from a happy and fabulous team.
I had 46 happy guests and had the best 50th birthday.

Thank you for everyone at Gilbey's for making my Diamond Jubilee Birthday Dinner so special on Saturday evening. I greatly appreciated it.
It was delightful to be upstairs (in the same room as my 40th and 50th birthday...think that counts as a trend!) and everything worked out exactly as I hoped! A special thanks for the belly pork being returned to the menu; only one of the party went rouge and ordered something else.
We'll look forward to visiting Gilbeys again before too long, and meanwhile wish you all the very best with thanks again for a really lovely evening.

A wonderful restaurant. Booking is recommended to guarantee to have a table. There are outdoor seatings. The restaurant is right in the centre of the old town. Parking very nearby.
We ordered from the 2-course menu. All dishes are amazing.
