This "cosy" high street wine bar, near the College, has been in the same ownership for over 30 years, and is tipped for its consistently "enjoyable" food; tables at the front are "great for people-watching", while the "huge" rear conservatory is best in summer.

February 2012: Dear Emma - I am sorry I couldn't thank you in person last night but I just wanted to say what a really wonderful evening we had. It was such fun for us being in your private dining room, the food was delicious, the service brilliant and we were all so reluctant to leave for the fashion show! January 2012: Hi Emma - writing to you was on my list of things to do too! I can't believe a couple of weeks have passed already. The feedback was great. The food was delicious (the starter looked amazing), was served hot and fast - very difficult to achieve with so many heads to cover. The staff were amazing and really looked after us well - Peter did a great job in your absence! We have some US visitors over next week who are staying in Windsor so are hoping to book in with you Tuesday evening. We are just checking that they can make dinner as no doubt they'll be jet-lagged! November 2011: Dear Team Gilbey's - Just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for making my birthday really special this past weekend. I dined with 4 friends at your restaurant on Saturday night and had a truly delightful evening. Having been let down by one of your nearby competitors, we arrived on your doorstep at 8.15 pm on Saturday evening, with fingers crossed for a table. Your staff did all that they could to accommodate us - the only table available was one that you usually seat 4 diners at so were worried that it would be a squeeze for us. We were offered a look at the table before we committed to it - but in reality it was plenty big enough for 5. So we sat down and enjoyed soime fabulous food, effortless & relaxed service as well as some cracking wine.
Despite all of us having lived in Windsor for around 10 years, none of us had been to your restaurant before. But, after such a lovely evening on Saturday am sure we'll be back soon. Please pass on my thanks to all the staff that looked after us and made for a truly memorable night.

September 2011: Morning Emma - Just wanted to say how much everyone enjoyed the meal and wine last week. Since most of the attendees were from various parts of Europe, I was intrigued as to how they would take to the English Wine. Well, it was a hit! Even our French colleagues said it was good and the food was delicious too. I think they would have liked a lunch so that they could look round Eton - maybe another time. September 2011: We just wanted to say thank you for your contribution to our wedding. On 21st August 2007 we had our first date at Gilbey's. This was so successful that exactly 4 years later we got married, on 21st August this year. So thank you for the wonderful food and relaxed atmosphere that made that night (and every subsequent visit) so special. Thank you also for the Pheasant's Ridge Brut, which we gave out as gifts at the wedding. It went down much better than the traditional engraved tankard!

February 2011: What a superb studio flat! Beautifully designed and co-ordinated but in a warm and welcoming way that made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The food in the restaurant was outstanding - the lamb was sumptuously melt in the mouth. My wife had the guinea fowl and described it as 'out of this world' all topped by a superb wine recommended by the friendly lady who served us. Surely it can only be a matter of time before Michelin discover what they are missing?

February 2011: Yesterday my wife and I had lunch at the Eton Gilbey's. This is just to say that we had a fabulous time. This was of course partly because the food was wonderful - the lamb especially was sensational and the starters imaginative without being weird. But also it was down to the exceptional service. Sadly I did not get the name of the young man who took care of us but I cannot remember ever having had such great service - except perhaps on one evening when we were at Gilbey's Ealing. This topped a fantastic stay in your studio apartment on Saturday night. Where do I start ....! The bed was so comfy, the bathrooms were first class - there was everything we needed and more! As you may know (or may not) Tony is a builder and he was VERY impressed with the quality of the finish. I especially liked the fact that the continental breakfast provided (which was scrummy!) meant we did not have to leave our room for breakfast - so relaxing not to have to rush anywhere!
We have been singing your praises since our stay, and we certainly will be using you again! Thanks, Emma, once again

July 08: Now I have found a quiet moment, I would like to thank you and your staff for their hard work and kindness to my wife and our family and friends at her birthday celebration lunch. The day went extremely well and an excellent time appears to have been had by all of us.

We were delighted with the layout of the rooms, the napkins were beautifully and perfectly bound and the flowers gave the restaurant just the right warmth. We were especially delighted with the sevice and hospitality of each and everyone of your staff. This was really wonderful and noticed by all our guests throughout the entire evening. Your attention to detail was superb.

July 2008 – Dear Emma, I have had the pleasure of many team dinners at Gilbey’s over the past years, however, it is true to say that last night was the best so far. Your staff were exceptionally helpful and courteous, the food was excellent and being able to gather in the garden for a pre dinner drink was perfect. We could not have asked for more – all in all an evening enjoyed 100% by everyone thanks to Gilbeys first class performance.
